Action Item: Host An Occuparty
Call your friends and Occupy your living-room for an evening (sleep over optional)! Living-room meetings are a tradition as old as grassroots organizing; indeed they are a backbone of our democracy. And, like democracy, it’s not as easy as it sounds. However, we urge you keep the following in mind as you work to organize your community:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
Soon we’ll be posting a step-by-step guide to hosting your own Occuparty, sample invitations and planning how-tos, suggested meeting agendas and specific action items your group can take (including organizing around “occupy-themed” legislation–see below). Meanwhile, groups in the Massachusetts ‘burbs are meeting and doing; take a look.
Action Item: Organize to Pass Upcoming Legislation
- INCOME INEQUALITY, THE WEALTH GAP & UNFAIR TAXATION
- CORPORATE POWER AND INFLUENCE (NEW)
- (Coming soon: “RESTORING OUR DEMOCRACY”, “IMPROVING THE ECONOMY” and more; please check back or subscribe for updates)
As a grassroots, statewide organization, Progressive Mass knows state legislation that will make a difference; as progressives, we share many of the same goals as the Occupy Movement.
Progressive Mass believes that well-targeted and organized action by informed citizens can and does have a significant effect on policy, and especially so at the state and local level. What happens legislatively in Massachusetts matters. We just need to get organized and get to work. In our collaboration with We Can Occupy, we aim to provide specific tactical and legislative information to help Massachusetts Occupiers shape their path forward. We look forward to collaborating with you and other supporters of the Occupy Movement now and in the future. Through democratic processes engaging our members, we prioritize specific progressive legislation to work toward passage. We hope you will continue to be a part of this collaborative work to make a progressive Massachusetts. Subscribe to our mailing list and visit us as ProgressiveMass.com for the latest updates
